Wagons
Wagons
This is a direct crib and cheat -and I am not ashamed to admit it! This is actually a modified five sheet stool for a small boy to sit on -except the top has moved to the bottom... The wagon consists of a 10cm x 20m bottom sheet, two 5cm x 20cm sheets, two 10cm x 5cm end pieces, and the sole bars are two 20cm lengths of 7mm square.
The external woodwork is applied to hide the joints. I tack assemble them with CA and then rub wood glue into the corners of the sheets with a finger. I can make one in around 15 minutes. From a £5 sheet of modelling ply I can make around 5 of these -yes there are one or two of these on the railway....
The wheels are again the Brandbright RSA 30/0 with the Brandbright RSA2B axleguard. The coupling is again Tenmille.
The big bogie wagon is simply the same construction -but uses 30cm long panels. I make two from a £5 sheet of ply
The box wagon is a simply that -a 30 cm box with with two bogies on it the domes on the top are again Kinder eggs. The box wagon is made from the leftovers of the two sheets of play used to make 5 wagons and 2 long wagons. Thus for £10 I can make 5 wagons, 2 big bogie wagons and a box wagon. This does not include the cost of wheels bogies and couplings -which often amounts to far more than the cost of the wagon...
e.g. £5 for two sets of wheels, £5 for a set of axle guards, £9 for two sets of bogies and £5 for a set of couplings.
